Who this trip is for
Intermediate/advanced skate skiers: you are able to skate confidently on moderate terrain (on snow), have grasped the different skating techniques and can ski comfortably on half or whole day tours (within your own pace).
You need to be a member of LRNSC or another nordic ski club affiliated to Snowsport England. If you're not a member of either you need to join our Club when your place is confirmed.
About Lillehammer
Lillehammer is the heart of cross-country skiing in Norway and is simply one of the best ski areas in Scandinavia. The town itself sits at the head of the Mjøsa lake, with good links to the three local ski centres: Lillehammer skistadion/biathlon range, Sjusjoen and Nordseter: these are easy to get to with regular busses and are linked together by a limitless network of ski tracks.
The advantage of staying in Lillehammer rather than Sjusjoen or Nordseter is that it gives us more choice of different ski areas, and we can go where the track cutters are doing their work to get the best conditions each day.
The Skiing
There will be a ski session each morning and afternoon, with the possibility of day tours, also allowing for time out to enjoy Lillehammer, and importantly to rest when you need to. The coaching group will be a minimum of 5 people (to make the trip viable) and a maximum of 9.
Skiing will be a mix of focused coaching and touring through the area to practice your new skills, with opportunities for free skiing if you want. Depending on the group size and make up there may be some teaching in smaller groups to enable a focus on particular techniques at your level.
Your Coach
Dagmar JunghannsDagmar is a Snowsport England Level 3 coach, with many years’ experience of teaching on snow and on roller skis. She loves sharing her passion for cross country skiing, and helping others develop their skills, and she enjoys racing in ski marathons.
She regularly coaches for LRNSC and Snowsport England and is very experienced at leading groups of varying levels of fitness and ambition, providing personal input to each skier.
Transport
You will make your own arrangements.
You should aim to arrive in Lillehammer by early evening on Saturday 14th February for a group meet-up and evening meal. Coaching will finish with the afternoon session on Saturday 17th February.
The nearest airport is Oslo Gardemoen, and there is a direct train link to Lillehammer (about 1h40). Booking a place on the train is strongly recommended – they fill up rapidly in the ski season.
There are 2 train booking apps: ENTUR and Vy. You will need the ENTUR app for local busses from Lillehammer.
Accommodation and food
You will make your own arrangements.
The recommended hotel is First Hotel Breiseth, which is one minute’s walk from the train/bus station (Lillehammer Skystation). You can book direct although it seems to be better value through Booking.com. This hotel does a very fine breakfast, but not evening meals, however there are plenty of moderately priced restaurants within a 10 minute walk. There are also supermarkets if you opt for self-catering.
Other hotels include the Stasjonen Hotel & Hostel, and Aksjemøllen, there are also various Airbnb options.
What to do next
